Simply put, the Explorer has everything going for it, and it's a vehicle that has proven itself over many years. That doesn't mean Ford is resting on its laurels, though, as the automaker continues to refine and improve its popular SUV. For 2026, the Explorer receives a few updates, including additional powertrain options for the Tremor model and more interior configuration choices for the ST.

Trim Levels and Pricing

The 2026 Ford Explorer lineup consists of five trim levels, starting with the Active model at $54,995. Don't let its position in the lineup fool you, however, as this is far from a bare-bones model. Next comes the ST-Line at $60,095, offering a sportier appearance while maintaining the comfort and refinement of a standard Explorer. The off-road-focused Tremor follows at $62,695. The luxurious Platinum starts at $65,595, while the high-performance ST sits at the top of the range with a starting price of $73,495.

Competition in the midsize SUV segment is fierce, but the Ford Explorer remains one of the most popular models in its class. In fact, I would even go as far as to say it has become the benchmark.

The American automaker has also done an excellent job with the available color palette, something that becomes even more apparent with special editions like the off-road-oriented Tremor or the ST with its distinctive color accents.

Inside, the Explorer features a clean and understated design, which is actually one of its strengths. The ergonomics are well thought out, making it an exceptionally comfortable SUV to live with. It also offers plenty of technology, and its infotainment system is among the simplest and smoothest to use in the industry.

Performance

The 2026 Ford Explorer offers two engine choices, beginning with a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that is also found in several other Ford models. This powerplant produces 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, while all-wheel drive comes standard. This combination gives the Explorer a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds while maintaining an average fuel consumption of 10.4 L/100 km, which is excellent for a vehicle of this size.

For buyers seeking a more exciting driving experience, the Explorer is also available with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 producing 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. This engine is also paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.
